Legends and Myths of Khait Parvat in Uttarakhand

Khait Parvat is steeped in fascinating Garhwali folklore. Locals believe that nine divine sisters, called Aanchari or Bharadi, inhabit the mountain. These fairies are said to dance under the full moon, blessing the land and its people.

One popular legend tells of Jeetu, a shepherd whose flute mesmerized the fairies. Drawn to his music, they appeared before him – and he mysteriously vanished into the mountain.

The site also has a temple dedicated to Goddess Durga, believed to be built over the head of the demon Kaitabh, slain by Lord Vishnu.
